Thanges Paramsothy is contributing to Research and Documentation team in Noolaham Foundation. .

Thanges Paramsothy was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He obtained his BA special degree in Sociology from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and MA in Refugee Studies from University of East London (UEL). He is currently undertaking his PhD research study in Anthropology at UEL. Thanges worked as temporary assistant lecturer at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He also worked as researcher in a number of research projects which include ‘caste-based discrimination in South Asia’ supported by International Dalit Solidarity Networks, ‘Socio-economic Baseline Assessment’ (SBA) facilitated by Applied Research Unit, United Nations Office for Project Services before coming to UEL to pursue his Masters degree.

He has published extensively on caste, displacement, identity and social transformation in both English and Tamil Languages. He is a co-editor of a book namely ‘Casteless or Caste-blind: Dynamics of Concealed Caste Discrimination, Social Exclusion and Protest in Sri Lanka. His research article, Caste and Social Exclusion of IDPs in Jaffna Society, was published in Colombo University Review-an interdisciplinary refereed Journal. His recent book is ‘Caste and Ethnicity in Jaffna Tamil Culture: War, Displacement and Socio-economic development Induced Transformation of Identity.’

His academic interests within the disciplines of Sociology and Anthropology focus on the areas of Violence, Forced Migration, Refugee-Diaspora, Caste, Class, Ethnicity, Religion and Development.

He is currently located in London, United Kingdom.
