== Awareness creation programme to Hindu Board Children Home ==

31.01.2015, Hind Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, Jaffna.

Noolaham foundation conducted the awareness creation programme of the findings through a research project title of ‘Unwritten laws and practices, and their influence on community and human rights in Jaffna’ at the Hindu board children home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, on 31st January 2015 from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm. This project was implemented by Noolaham Foundation and funded by Neelan Thiruchelvam Trust (NTT), Colombo. Forty six Hindu board’s students participated and benefited from this awareness programme. Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan (Acting-Chief Program Executive), Miss. Satchithananandan Gajani (Finance and Administration Officer), Mr. Sriranganathan Srivakeesan (Researcher), Mr. Nadarasa Pirapakar (Digital Library Officer) and volunteers of the foundation participated in this event on behalf of Noolaham Foundation. Mr. Sriranganathan Srivakeesan facilitated this event.

Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan gave brief explanation about the project on the beginning of this event. Mr Sriranganathan Srivakeesan shared the Unwritten Laws and practices among the Jaffna community and to identified their influence on Human Rights at present (2014) with participants. He also provided enough knowledge about history of Tamil culture, tradition, Thesavalamai Law and United Nation’s fundamental human rights articles . It was made students, easy to understand about Jaffna Tamils’ practices and unwritten laws. Noolaham Foundation believes that this programme will be created awareness among the home students about their rights and bring them up from the cultural barriers, create a friendly and protective environment and ensure a healthy society.

During the post event evaluation of interview with a student, she added from the awareness creation programme I really learned a lot and I wish to thank Noolaham Foundation for organizing and hosting this awareness creation event, as well as the very helpful and energetic staff. The environment was very positive and engaging from the start, and it was very nice to have the experience with such a diverse but provide an effective results according to its goals. Finally the event came to an end at 6.00 pm with the vote of thanks by Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan.

Lambotharan Sivarajah is the acting Chief Programme Executive of Noolaham Foundation and joined in July 2014. He is contributing the day to day activities and tasks of the foundation, and in charge of the staff and oversee all program and project related activities and reports to the Regulatory Board and relevant stake holders. He is managing projects from original concept through final implementation and ensuring adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables. And he is the responsible person for assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources as needed, and developing a schedule to ensure timely completion of the program and project. Lambotharan had previously served as Program and Communication officer of the foundation from July 2014 – September 2014.

Lambotharan was born in Point Pedro, Jaffna, Sri Lanka in 1982. He is a Bachelor of Science degree holder of University of Jaffna and completed postgraduate diploma in Landscape Architecture at Docklands Campus, University of East London, United Kingdom. He also followed the two years course in English as a Second Language (ESL) conducted by the English Language Teaching Centre, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He is currently reading for a B. Sc Quantity Surveying at the British College of Applied Studies, Jaffna.

He had served as a project coordinator with Institute of Nursery Studies and Gender Development (INS-GD) for more than a year (2006-2007) and managed North East Coastal Community Development Project funded by Asian Development Bank. He also worked as an Instructor at Department of Computer Unit, University of Jaffna for a period of one year (2007-2008) and served as a visiting instructor in Information Technology (IT) at UOJ, under the IRQUE project funded by world bank for four months. He has assigned a five years foreign assignment as a Network Coordinator in UK with Chanton Group Plc, Middlesex, UK from October 2008 -September 2013.

He had his secondary education at Hartley College, Point Pedro where he has served as a prefect and caption of school cricket team. He has participated in the 8th Sri Lanka University games and achieved first in cricket for 2004. At the University of Jaffna he was awarded full colors in cricket for 2004. Lambotharan was part of the Tamil Union Cricket Club, UK during the 2009 – 2013 season. At West Yorkshire, where he played minor county from 2011 – 2013. He has functioned as president at Thickam Youth Sports Club, Point Pedro in 2006.

He is presently located in Point Pedro, Jaffna.

Nirosha Vadivelu is the Digital Archiving officer of Noolaham Foundation and joined in December 2014. She is contributing archiving of data, data recording, checking the list of books at Noolaham Foundation’s Digital Library with digital records, by verifying title of books names of authors, and number of pages per book and thereafter remove detected errors in the website.

She obtained a BA special degree (Hons) in Economics from the University of Colombo in 2011. Besides her degree, she has completed the Diploma in Journalism at Vizhuthugal Organization, Colombo. She is currently reading for a Diploma in Human Resource Management at the National Institute of Business Managements, Colombo. She had her primary and secondary education at St. Maya’s Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Yatiyantota and Wolvendhal Girls High School in Colombo.
In both schools she has participated in short story writing and composition competitions held at the school level and zonal level.

She is presently located in Colombo.

==Celebration of ‘Thai Pongal’ and 10 years of Noolaham Foundation==

The traditional harvest festival of ‘Thai Pongal’ and 10 years of Noolaham Foundation were celebrated with enthusiasm on Friday 16 January 2015 at Kaddaipiray office, Jaffna. Ten years ago, on January 15, 2005, Noolaham Foundation was inaugurated as Project Noolaham.

Noolaham Foundation’s Jaffna staff cooked the sweet rice dish of Pongal over open fires. The Thai Pongal festival is an occasion to give thanks and look forward to embracing new beginnings. It is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Tamil people. The staff exchanged Pongal wishes, hoping that it brings the harbinger of good luck, good fortune and good cheer. Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan (Acting Chief Program Executive, Noolaham Foundation) gave thanks for the hard work of everyone during the past year and wished them a successful future.

Staff members drew the Kolam with rice flour that was plain as well as colored. Parallel straight lines were drawn using a cylindrical rod as a guide. The Pongal was set up in direct view of the Sun (East). As soon as the boiling was over, the cooked rice, i.e. Pongal, was offered to the Sun God. Camphor was lighted; coconut was broken, Tevaram was sung and there after everyone joined the lunch.

Noolaham Foundation proudly recognizes and appreciates the staff who supported the event. The staff of Noolaham Foundation Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan , Mr. Srivakeesan Sriranganathan (Researcher), Mr. Pirapakar Nadarasa (Digital Library Officer), Ms. Thappiththal Sathiyaseelan (Digital Library Assistant), Ms. Pilogini Pararajasingam (Digital Archiving Assistant) and Mrs. Meuriy Gajendran (Digital Library Assistant) participated in this event on behalf of Noolaham Foundation .

A discussion with Mrs. Dharshini Elanchelian and Mr. Elanchelian Nadarajah was held on 08th August 2014 at 06.00 p.m. at Noolaham Foundation Colombo office. They were on the way from Norway and holds the position of Members of Chapter, Noolaham, Norway. Mr. Seran Sivananthamoorthy (Director, Dedicated Director, Sri Lanka), Mr. Ramanaish Katheravelu (Board Member), Mr. Sanjayan Selvamanickam (Chapter Head, Noolaham, Norway) and the staff of Noolaham Foundation Miss. Gajani Satchithanandan (Finance & Admin officer) participated on behalf of Noolaham Foundation on this event.

Current trend and advancements in digitizing and documenting processes, collection development archive and future goals of Noolaham Foundation were discussed with them. Further, some advices were given on the technologies to be used in digitization, how to development and manage an institution like this, digital archiving processes, elaboration of the stakeholder networks, funds and financial contributions, projects that being carried out, volunteer commitment and support, the quality and standards that has to be considered while digitizing and archiving, and the information and contact details about other competent which run similar projects.

The visitors appreciated the service of Noolaham Foundation for the Tamil speaking communities. Mrs. Dharshini Elanchelian and Mr. Elanchelian Nadarajah expressed and assured that they would provide immense assistance and support for the initiation of new viable interventions and operational requirements.

Discussion was held on 27th August 2014 at 04.00 p.m. in Noolaham Foundation Colombo office with Dr. Thavam Thampipillai, MD who is the Secretary of international board of directors at International Medical Health Organization (IMHO). Mr.Sanjayan Selvamanickam (Chapter head, Noolaham, Norway) and Mr. Shanmugapriyan Shanmugam (Chief Program Executive, Noolaham Foundation) participated on behalf of Noolaham Foundation.

The project related communication had been initiated and a concept note was submitted to IMHO by Noolaham Foundation in 2013. Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, university of Jaffna is the primary stake holder of the project.

Mr. Shanmugam Shanmugapriyan explained about the Noolaham Foundation and its services rendering to Tamil speaking communities. The discussion focused on the digital library, programs and road map of Noolaham Foundation, volunteer contributions and participation towards Noolaham Foundation, challenges encountered in ten year, and the objective of the project of “Documentation and Information Sharing of Community Medicine Resources”. And further briefed on the progress of the digitizing activities in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, university of Jaffna since February 2014, technical aspects, and the expected results of this intervention. Strategic discussion was convened on how to disseminate this digitally archived document and the need of initiating next phase to fulfill the gap.

Dr. Thavam Thampipillai, MD realized that IMHO and Noolaham Foundation would work together for benefit of Tamil speaking communities on knowledge building aspects. He mentioned that further to this discussion, he would be able to explain on the potentiality of the project intervention proposed by Noolaham Foundation to IMHO community and would take part in knowledge storing and disseminating services of Noolaham Foundation.

''29.07.2014, Hind Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, Jaffna ''

First soft-skill development training and facilitation event was taken place at the Hindu Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli on 29th of July 2014 at from 09.30 am to 12.30 pm. This project is funded by Ratnam Foundation. On behalf of Noolaham Foundation, Mr. Sanjayan Selvamanickam (Chapter head, Norway, Noolaham Foundation), Mr. Shanmugapriyan Shanmugam (Chief Program Executive, Noolaham Foundation), Mr. Gowthaman Kunchithapatham (District Coordinator, Volunteer), Noolaham Foundation staff and volunteers, and Mr. Somasuntharam Pathmanathan (President, HBCH), Mr. Thiruselvam Selvamanoharan (Assistant Secretary, HBCH) were actively participated in the event. Forty six number of Hindu Board Home student beneficiaries also were participated in this event. As a resource person Mr. A. Antony (Economic Development Officer, Divisional Secretariat, Tellippalai) was heavily facilitated this event.

A brief welcoming note provided by Mr. Noel Rukshan Premakumar (Project Assistant, Noolaham Foundation) at this event. Mr. Somasuntharam Pathmanathan, in his welcoming address, thanked Noolaham Foundation, donors and its works on behalf of Hindu Board Children Home, he continually delivered that it will help to stimulate students’ motivation for life skill development. Mr. Sanjayan Selvamanickam provides the importance of the project and its advantages in the modern world. Further he kindly called for help from society and volunteers to implement the project successfully. Mr. Gowthaman Kunchithapatham (Project Coordinator, Volunteer) delivered brief explanation on the objective of the intervention, aims and exoected impact and results, further he added these kind of intervention is most needed for the children, especially in homes.

Under the Noolaham Foundation objectives of ‘communities of practice’ (foster user communities) and 'virtual learning environments' this project plans to provide forty-five children-focused participatory and interactive training on personal, social and soft skills development for Hindu Board Children Home students, Thirunelveli, Jaffna. Under the soft skills, ‘message’, one of the elements of communication was considered for the first training. During the training period five different types of participatory and interactive tools were applied and the children were actively participated and helped each other in the training.

==First training event of “Improvement of e-Learning Facilities and Soft Skill to Children” Project==

''29.07.2014, Hind Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, Jaffna ''

First soft-skill development training and facilitation event was taken place at the Hind Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli on 29th of July 2014 at from 09.30 am to 12.30 pm. On behalf of Noolaham Foundation, Mr. Sanjayan Selvamanickam (chapter head, Noolaham Foundation, Norway), Mr. Shanmugapriyan Shanmugam (Chief Program Executive, Noolaham Foundation), Mr. Gowthaman Kunchithapatham (District Coordinator, Volunteer), Noolaham Foundation staff and volunteers, and Mr. Somasuntharam Pathmanathan (President, HBCH), Mr. Thiruselvam Selvamanoharan (Assistant Secretary, HBCH) were actively participated in the event. Forty six number of Hindu Board Home student beneficiaries also were participated in this event. As a resource person Mr. A. Antony (Economic Development Officer, Divisional Secretariat, Tellippalai) was heavily facilitated this event.

A brief welcoming note provided by Mr. Noel Rukshan Premakumar (Project Assistant, Noolaham Foundation) at this event. Mr. Somasuntharam Pathmanathan, in his welcoming address, thanked Noolaham Foundation, donors and its works on behalf of Hindu Board Children Home, he continually delivered that it will help to stimulate students’ motivation for life skill development. Mr. Sanjayan Selvamanickam provides the importance of the project and its advantages in the modern world. Further he kindly called for help from society and volunteers to implement the project successfully. Mr. Gowthaman Kunchithapatham (Project Coordinator, Volunteer) delivered brief explanation on the objective of the intervention, aims and exoected impact and results, further he added these kind of intervention is most needed for the children, especially in homes.

Under the Noolaham Foundation objective of ‘communities of practice’ (foster user communities) this project plans to provide forty-five children-focused participatory and interactive training on personal, social and soft skills development for Hindu Board Children Home students, Thirunelveli, Jaffna. Under the soft skills, ‘message’, one of the elements of communication was considered for the first training. During the training period five different types of participatory and interactive tools were applied and the children were actively participated and helped each other in the training.

Noolaham Foundation proud to recognizes and appreciates the volunteers and the staff who supported in the event.The staff of Noolaham Foundation Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan (Programme and Communication Officer), Mrs. Yalini Lambotharan, Mr. Noel Rukshan Premakumar (Project Assistant) were participated on behalf of Noolaham Foundation in this event. Mr. Gowthaman Kunchithapatham (District Coordinator, Volunteer), Mr. Keethan Sivasubramaniyam, Mr. Harishanth Thiraviyanathan (“Pallikoodam”, coordinator), Ms. Siva Suthanthini (Volunteer) and seven more volunteers (who awaits for admissions to Sri Lankan’s universities) were also participated.
